NYE and a Juice Cleanse: Start to 2014

I had such a great New Year’s Eve this year. NYE can be one of those holidays that you hype up so much and then are disappointed when it doesn’t live up to your expectations. Let’s just take last year’s NYE as an example… I ended up in a warehouse in Bushwick (with no heat) surrounded by 18-year-olds under the false pretenses that I was going to a VIP Open Bar for a hot DJ….yeah, so I’m really happy to say this year was a blast – the perfect mix of family, friends, food, drinks, and dancing…my five favorite things.1010459_10201882934538650_103554051_n

I started the day with a trip to the Dry Bar courtesy of my wonderful boyfriend. He got me a membership for Christmas and I’m so thankful. He is the best gift giver… seriously.

My family and I all met for dinner at Quality Italian – a new hotspot for italian in midtown. Since I was doing some prep for a juice cleanse (more on that in a bit), I took it easy with a kale salad and swordfish. Everything was unreal, but if you go, splurge with the chicken parmesan for 2 and the Zeppole Workshop! Um, does it get any more ridiculous than that?

After dinner, Bryan, my brother, and I headed downtown to meet up with some friends at the Highline Ballroom. It was pretty much like any other open bar in NYC I’ve ever been to, and I ended up having a blast. Great DJ, great company, plenty of champagne and dancing on tables… all sealed with a kiss!

New Year’s Day was comprised of eating fruits and vegetables and movie-watching on the couch. That’s because the next day I started my first BluePrint juice cleanse. I did the 3-day Foundation Cleanse, and to be honest, it wasn’t so bad! I definitely needed to reset my cravings  after Christmas and this did the trick. Now I’m craving salmon, salads, and soups instead of chocolate chip cookies, eggplant parm, and cheese #italiangirlproblems.

And hey, I even lost four pounds.

Have you ever done a juice cleanse?

Organizing Makeup 101

I don’t necessarily consider myself an “organized” person. I don’t like clutter but I have a lot of stuff. My closet? Organized chaos… However, thanks to instagram, I became obsessed with makeup organization. Something about clear acrylic cubes displaying pretty things (that make you pretty) just attracted me. Once I got that in my head, my make-up bag…well it just didn’t suffice.

After careful consideration, I decided spending 200-500 dollars on a plastic box was INSANE, but then found these acrylic drawers at MUJI in Times Square and got the look for under 50 bucks! I picked up one two-drawer acrylic tray and one two-drawer with a lid. I also grabbed a brush holder (that holds my Clarisonic upright).  From the Container store, I have an acrylic toothbrush holder, 2-type acrylic circular container and 2 nail polish holders (Essie only, of course).

In my MUJI drawers I hold:

Drawer 1: Palettes and big compacts i.e. Naked Palettes, Nars laguna bronzer, albatross luminating powder etc.

Drawer 2: Foundations, blushes and highlighters (all my Bare Minerals and MAC Powders go in here).

Drawer 3: Lipsticks in the front (mostly all Mac) and eye shadows in the back (two MAC compacts and 4 NARS duos fit here)

Drawer 4 (left open): everyday facial cleanser, lotion and eye cream, brushes/liners in the toothbrush holder separated by type, Q-tips and facial pads in a Container store jar, and my Laura Mercier Foundation (that I use everyday!) Also on here is a MAC shimmer powder and a candle I like to light when I’m knee-deep in make-up application.

In the glass jar, I hold my MAC lipglasses and everyday glosses. I did this because #1 it seemed like a waste of the organizer to use a whole shelf for lip gloss and #2 they’re the most recognizable. I love being able to just grab and go without disrupting my organized make-up drawers. Plus, it’s pretty!

I should also mention that things like mascara, liquid eyeliner, bronzer, BB cream, concealer etc. are not in my make-up organizer. I keep those in a small make-up case in my bag for touch ups.

Nothing gives me greater joy than walking into my bathroom and seeing how organized this very small section of my life is! Now if only I can get this organized in my closet…kitchen drawers…pots and pans…..

Obsessed with Christmastime

It really is the most wonderful time of the year, especially in New York City. Everything seems to glow a bit brighter, even the big city lights.

Here are some things I’m just loving this holiday season.

A dark red lip –  MAC Lipliner in Vino with MAC Rebel lipstick….Perfff.

Christmas Decor…well when am I not? Keeping with my gold, silver, white, and blush pink motif…always. Especially loving my cupcake-adorned tree and this guy helping me make it all happen.

Adding some festivity to every outfit. Sequins, sparkles, fur, glitter, and embellishments. I’m working some Christmastime into each and every outfit…and it’s so fun.

The holiday spirit. Just makes you feel…OK, doesn’t it? Christmastime just reminds me that I am so blessed. Sure things aren’t perfect (when will they ever be?) and there’s a lot of things I’d like/need to do in 2014…but for right now, I’m loved and happy. And Christmas always reminds me that… that’s most certainly enough.

Have you tried tobi.com?

Have you heard of Tobi?

Tobi vegan leather skirt and wide-trimmed top - perfect for a girls night!

Tobi vegan leather skirt and wide-trimmed top – perfect for a girls night out!

It’s a member-only online boutique that rewards you for getting friends hooked on their cute, edgy, pieces. Five friends = 50% off your order. On top of that, all new arrivals are always discounted too. And free shipping.

They’re practically giving away clothes at this point.

Tobi’s clothes are always flirty and fun. If I’m out, I’m usually wearing a Tobi piece somewhere on my body.  I would liken the quality of the clothes to an H&M, but the prices are even better. In my nights out in NYC, I trust that my Tobi clothes will keep me on-trend. I can have fun without worrying that my $150 Joie top gets ruined by someone’s 3 AM late night slice.

That’s actually happened.

If you haven’t gotten on the Tobi train, (and I advise you to do so), here is my personal invite link.

Get connected and start enjoying all the fun! I’ve currently got my eye on this for an upcoming trip.

I was not compensated by tobi.com in any way for this post. I am just obsessed with their affordable fashion and want to spread the news to all who can hear. All opinions are my own, xx.

What I Wore: Autism Charity Benefit 2013

Hi all, hope you had a great weekend! I definitely did 🙂 On Saturday, me and a few friends hosted a charity event for Autism. It went incredibly well! Everyone had a blast (I mean it was an open bar) and we raised over 2000 dollars for an autism non-profit near and dear to my heart. Here are some pics and what I wore.

This raffle table was insane! We raised over $1000 from our raffles alone.

New Zara Haul

Hi guys! Hope your week is moving along nicely. It’s Friday!! I am deep in event planning for tomorrow’s Charity Open Bar. For now, here was one of my coping mechanisms from this week: a quick trip to Zara. Can’t really call it a “trip” since it’s across the street from my office.  Let’s call it a lunch break.

1. Spotted these leggings the minute I walked in. I just love mixed media right now – and these are not going to disappoint. Leather and suede with a mix of black and black gray?… I die.

2. Oh shocking, more mixed media. Khaki and leather combine for this perfect October bomber. This will be #3 of the mixed media bomber jackets in my closet. I have another black on black, and just picked up a tweed/leather one I’ll be showing you next week after event!

3. Love this embellished top inthis pretty jeweled tone. Mine is an emerald green with more of a cap sleeve, but you’ll get the look with some black skinny trousers and some embellished heels. I know exactly when I will be wearing this next week! Stay tuned.

4. Craving chunky sweaters but with today climbing into the 80’s, I knew I needed to satisfy with a cute crew neck sweater. Mine is a bit different (more t-shirt-like but I can’t find it online!) but this is a great staple as well. Couldn’t wait to wear this with a statement necklace and jeans for a casual Friday or Saturday look. In fact, that’s what I’m doing right now.

Happy weekend! Any exciting plans? Remember, if you’re in the NYC area, check our my charity event here.
